These are dudes who influenced my drawing styles from while we were in school together. I've always tried to draw like Pat McHale (writer on Adventure Time) and Somvilay Xayaphone (storyboard artist and writer on Adventure Time). How did you develop Adventure Time’s unique look? What were your influences? Because the show is for kids more than anyone else, but most of the time we (the writers and storyboard artists) are just trying to crack ourselves up and trying not to worry about much other than that. ![]() I'm happy when I see those kinds of jokes. Sometimes I recognize a joke that reminds me of something that I would've busted up at as a kid. ![]() Pendleton Ward: Both, but primarily we write the show to entertain ourselves. Do you intentionally write for two audiences, including jokes and references for grown-ups? Or are you just making the show you want, and broad appeal is a side effect?
